JEFF HORN IS AN AUSTRALIAN SPORTING LEGEND AND FORMER WBO WORLD WELTERWEIGHT BOXING CHAMPION.
Dubbed “The Hornet” for his fighting style, he will forever be etched into the hearts and minds of Queenslanders after his memorable victory on his home soil at Suncorp Stadium over world boxing giant Manny Pacquiao.
Born and raised in Brisbane, he epitomises the Aussie underdog who overcome his own hurdles early in life to find himself taking on the world.
A victim of high school bullying, Horn took up boxing as a means of defending himself. At 15 years of age as a skinny teenager, Horn met trainer Glenn Rushton and described his first impression of him as “a little bit soft looking.” After 12 months of training Horn decided he wanted a boxing career, and a path was laid out to become world champion.
Through frit, hard work and determination Horn won his first Australian title in 2009 on the road to becoming an Olympian at London 2012 as an amateur.
Turning pro in 2013, Horn went on an incredible 19-fight undefeated run including a WBO world title belt after his shock defeat of Pacquiao, that captivated the nation.
After 24 pro fights, he announced his retirement in 2020.
Since then Horn has dedicated his time to a raft of social causes including mentorship for juvenile offenders, advocating for a decline in school bullying, resilience in adversity education and keynote speaking for various sections of society including depression in the Australian mining community.
He is married to his high school sweetheart Joanna, who he shares three kids with. They reside in Brisbane. Horn is a qualified school teacher with a degree from Griffith University.
His awards include Sport Australia Hallf of Fame Don Award, 2017 Queensland Sport Star of the Year and Sporting Moment of the Year at the 2017 AIS Awards.
