MADDY PROUD IS ONE OF THE BEST NETBALLER’S IN THE WORLD WITH HER HUGE TALENT ON THE COURT MATCHED ONLY BY HER LARGER-THAN-LIFE PERSONALITY.
A double Super Netball championship winning captain of the NSW Swifts and an Australian Diamonds representative, Proud has achieved it all at the highest level with her infectious energy and enthusiasm, making her one of the most popular players in the game.
Proud’s journey began in Adelaide, where she was raised alongside her two brothers, who stoked her competitive fire on a daily basis in just about every backyard sport on offer.
At the tender age of 16 she became the youngest player to be contracted to a professional Netball team, when the Adelaide Thunderbirds realised her potential and signed her for their ANZ Championship squad.
While biding her time to make an impression in the best domestic league in the world, Proud was selected to captain the Australian under 21 team at the World Youth Netball Cup.
In 2016 Proud made the difficult decision to leave her hometown and family by moving to Sydney to join the NSW Swifts. She hasn’t looked back since, playing a major part in their two Super Netball titles.
Her team first mentality was on display in the clubs first premiership in 2019, when an ACL tear ruled her out for the second half of the season. Instead of kicking stones, Proud shifted her role to make valuable inputs into the coaching of the team and support her teammates in their toughest moments.
In 2021 she got her Grand Final moment as a player when she guided the Swifts to title glory alongside co-captain, Paige Hadley.
But the Netball court isn’t the only place her talents shine, with her creative writing skills setting her on the path to become a published children’s author for Grace on the Court. The story of a 13-year-old aspiring Netball player in her first year of High School.
In a testament to her drive, Proud regularly uses her spare time to sell her book at junior netball games on weekends, all off her own back.
While juggling her commitments as a professional athlete, Proud has earned a Bachelor of Management in Marketing and a Masters of Creative Writing.
